Students on the LA campus complained that too many books had been taken from the library to support the opening of Payson Library in Malibu. About a quarter of LA's 100,000 volumes were transferred to Malibu, which then acquired a major donation of hundreds of thousands of volumes. The decision of which books to move was made by faculty members.¹
