Payson receives big collection
date Friday, June 30, 1972
location Malibu
The Malibu Times reported that Norvel Young had announced the donation of a private collection to Payson Library on the new Malibu campus ahead of its September opening. The collection included some 300,000 volumes, appraised at over $600,000.1 The books were donated by Harvey Taylor, a book dealer from Santa Barbara. The collection took many months to catalog, stretching well into 1973.2
When students on the LA campus heard about this donation, they were not pleased, especially since a substantial portion of their own library's collection was sent to Malibu to seed the new Payson collection.2
