Racial tensions mount in student senate
date Thursday, February 17, 1972
location LA campus
The president of the Student Association, Emile Hons, was quoted in a Graphic article, saying that there was a "racial split" in the student senate. Hons accused a coalition of Black senators of slowing progress on senate finance initiatives by voting to protect the interests of the Black Student Union. One Black sophomore senator shot back that the senate's failure to agree on financial issues was due to Hons's lack of leadership.1
