LA puts on A Raisin in the Sun

Students on the LA campus put on A Raisin in the Sun, a 1959 play by Lorraine Hansberry about a Black family in south Chicago.1 The play was sponsored by Harambee (formerly known as the Black Student Union), with funds from the student senate.2 Student tickets cost $1.1
When the play premiered on Broadway in 1959, it starred Bahamian actor Sidney Poitier in the lead role of Walter Lee Younger. In 1976, Poitier's daughter Sherri attended Pepperdine.3
