The Graphic's report on the annual "Pledge Week" for new members of social clubs called the pledges "worms," "slugs," and "barnacles." The Graphic called the event "an annual week of torment for prospects and pleasure for active members" and recounted pledges of the Kappa Kappa sorority being made to wear sailor outfits and bring toy boats with them everywhere they went. Meanwhile, the Phi Phi Phi fraternity focused on "psychological indoctrination." One pledge, when asked for comment, told the paper, "You couldn't print it anyway."1
